About the Artist
Paras Kaul, alias “That Brain Wave Chick,” is a neural multimedia artist, researcher, and brain wave music composer who utilizes a brain wave interface to the computer to create multimedia performances. Kaul, author of this blog, has performed at the Kennedy Center, Millennium Stage, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Warehouse Next Door in Washington, D.C; the Dana Centre Museum of Science in the UK; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; California State University, Mississippi State University, George Mason University, and convention centers in Los Angeles, Orlando, Boston, and San Jose. She has worked at animation companies in New York and in Hollywood at Paramount Studios and has also been invited to speak internationally in the UK, Australia, and France, and to Los Angeles, Virginia, Boston, Minneapolis, Mississippi, and Hawaii in the United States.
As the recent Associate Director of Creative Services, and former Director of Web Communications at George Mason University, she is also a member of the university’s Web Team and Technology Council, which committees determine current and future directions for technology at the university. Additionally, Kaul serves on the university’s Executive Committee for Sustainability, and Co-Chairs the steering committee for Mason on iTunes U. She has been an advisor for the university’s media lab, and for the student chapter of the Special Interest Group for Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques (SIGGRAPH), and is at times an adjunct professor in Art and Visual Technology in the School of Art. She has been a member of the DC Chapter of American Composers Forum and the Chair and Co-Chair of SIGGRAPH professional chapters.
